Chapter 7
The majority of my work is involved in helping every-day people file for a chapter 7 bankruptcy. Chapter 7 bankruptcy, also known as straight-bankruptcy, is a very quick and streamlined process. Basically, in a chapter 7 bankruptcy you can discharge (or eliminate) all of your unsecured debts. Unsecured debts are those debts which are not secured by any property such as credit cards, medical bills, etc. So if you have $10,000, $25,000, or $60,000 or more in credit card debts for example, you could wipe them out to $0 in a chapter 7 bankruptcy.
Chapter 7 Is Fast
One of the great benefits to Chapter 7 is that in most cases it totally eliminates your unsecured debts AND it does this within a matter of a few months. It is a very powerful tool.
Retaining Your Assets
If you have a home, car, stocks, bonds, business, or any number of other assets then it is my job to help you retain as many of those assets as I can under the law. For many of my clients, they are able to retain all of their assets in a chapter 7 bankruptcy even though they are discharging all of their debts
